Taijiquan (T’ai Chi Chuan) is a form of moving meditation performed for strength, stress reduction, and relaxation. It is a low-impact physical exercise based on martial arts applications.
Yangjia Michuan Taijiquan, translated as Yang Family Hidden Tradition Taijiquan, was created by Yang Luchan in the second half of the 19th century. YMT was passed on to successive generation masters Yang Jianhou, Zhang Qinlin, and Wang Yen-nien (1914-2008). In order to prevent the loss of this art, in the 20th century Wang Yen-nien opened it to all who are interested in carrying on the Yangjia Michuan style.
Emily DuBois learned YMT from Tsuei Wei and Wang Yen-nien. She teaches ongoing YMT classes at several locations on the Big Island of Hawai’i, and hosts occasional workshops with visiting instructors. Beginners and students of other forms are welcome.
